McCray’s Tavern - West Village

Recently went to check out McCray’s Tavern in West Village. On a hot and sticky night, what better to do than go try a new restaurant. McCray’s definitely has become a meeting point. As soon as we walked in the door, we were struck by the deafening noise of the bar area directly in front.

We opted for one of their three patios. Being rather warm, we could certainly recommend adding fans to the outdoor areas, but all was good. Particularly since they sell 20 oz. Paulaner Hefeweizens. It’s hard to find 1/2 liter beers around here.

Their menu offers a wide selection of pub food from Fish & Chips to Slow-Roasted Beef Short Ribs. We started off with the Spinach & Artichoke Dip along with the aforementioned Paulaner and a Pilsner Urquell. You have to love a cold draft beer on a warm night.

I ordered the Shrimp & Grits, in my continued pursuit to find the perfect S&G, my wife went for the Salmon Panini, my son opted for the pasta marinara and my daughter selected the grilled cheese.

We were generally happy with our meals, but not blown away. Still haven’t found the perfect Shrimp & Grits. But I do think that McCray’s will prove to be a popular spot for their bar and locale. With 45 beers on tap and 50 wines to choose from, you really can’t go too wrong, can you? And with approximately 1,000 residences in West Village alone, I’m sure everyone will enjoy the convenience of walking to their local tavern.

Smyrna Vinings - Where do you Work?

As traffic congestion continues to worsen in the metro Atlanta area, one of the great things about living in the Smyrna Vinings community is the close proximity to many of the major work centers. As the revive285 top end project continues, we thought it would be interesting to understand where people work that actually live here.

So this month, take a moment to answer the poll on the left side. We’ll post the results next month and we’ll be sure to make some extrapolations, interpretations, analyses, graphs and SWAGs to provide you with an in-depth understanding of the poll results.

Nuevo Laredo has just been voted as the best Mexican food in Smyrna Vinings in our first annual Mexican food poll. While you’ll find that Mexican food lovers all have their preferences and they are equally adamant about which Mexican food is best, Nuevo Laredo has been voted 2007 SmyrnaVinings.com Best Mexican Food. The following restaurants were considered in the poll.

Riverwood Mixed-Use Development

Two developers are planning a $300 million mixed-use project near Cumberland Mall. The project is less than a quarter-mile from the reinvigorated Cumberland Mall and the new Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The current plan calls for nearly 540,000 square feet of office, 380 luxury residences, a 200 room hotel, retail shops and restaurants on 22 acres off Cumberland Boulevard.

Some pictures of the proposed project are provided above. This is another example of some exciting developments going on in the Smyrna Vinings area and a great reason to call this community home.
