South City Kitchen Vinings has announced the next installment in its continuing culinary education series, Linger & Learn, which will be “Big Easy Cocktails.”

This event will be held at the restaurant on February 1st from 5:30-7:30pm. Guests will learn step-by-step from the restaurant’s expert bartenders how to make at home some of the city’s most famous cocktails including the Hurricane, Romas Gin Fizz and Sazerac.

Guests will be provided with recipe cards and samples of each cocktail, as well, while they enjoy small bites of classic Cajun dishes like fried boudin, riz juane, alligator and andouille beignets and oysters en brochuette.

The cost of the Linger & Learn experience is only $25 per person (plus tax and gratuity) and guests who stay for dinner after the class will receive 15% off their check.

Seating is limited to the first 30 people. Reservations are by phone only at 770.435.0700.

The Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 160 is hosting a Charity Dance featuring the band Sons-N-Britches to benefit our Veteran Programs.

The Charity Dance will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012.  Doors will open at 7:15pm and the band will perform at 8pm. Tickets are $10.00 and are available at the Post, at the door the night of event, or online at Facebook/Ala Smyrna.

Limited seating so advance purchase suggested!

Cash bar and kitchen will be open for food purchases. Come early and visit our lounge for dinner and stay after to join us for karaoke.

The Week in Review:

Mortgage interest rates edged higher last week by .125% to .25%.  News from Europe combined with reports that showed inflation higher than expectations caused the increase.

What to Expect:

Tuesday night we will hear the President’s State of the Union address and then Wednesday the Fed will releases its policy statement.  We don’t expect either event to have much impact on the markets.

Barring news from Europe, any market movement this week will take place at the end of the week when the economic reports are scheduled for release.

Did you know that your new mortgage is about to be taxed? Last month Congress agreed to finance a two-month extension of the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits by raising the guarantee fee that Fannie and Freddie charge loan originators.  In layman’s terms, a $200,000 mortgage will have approximately $800 additional closing costs in the form of points to get the same loan prior to the tax increase.  We expect the increase to be in all loans in February and in many cases sooner.
