Time to Spring Forward March 8, 2015

March 8, 2015
2:00 am

For most Americans, daylight saving time begins in 2015 at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 8th, when most states spring forward and daylight saving time resumes.

The federal government doesn’t require U.S. states or territories to observe daylight saving time, which is why residents of Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Marianas Islands won’t need to turn back their clocks this weekend.

One of the biggest reasons we change our clocks to Daylight Saving Time (DST) is that it reportedly saves electricity.

Time zones were first used by the railroads in 1883 to standardize their schedules.

Hopefully, since we’re springing forward we can also get past this winter weather and feel more like Spring, which officially begins on March 20th. Typically, it feels a lot more like Spring much earlier than this year. But before you know it, we’ll get hit by a heat wave and complain about it being to hot rather than too cold.

2015 Upward Girls Softball and Boys Baseball

Upward Girls Softball and Boys Baseball

Spring is almost here, and we are anxious to get outdoors! It’s that time of year again!

The Upward Sports Ministry of First Baptist Church Smyrna is pleased to announce their 2015 Girls Softball and Boys baseball season. They are extremely excited about another fun and exciting sports league, and they would love to have your family participate.

• Softball is offered for K4-8th grade girls.

• Tee-ball is offered for K4-1st grade boys.

• Coach Pitch baseball is offered for 1st-4th grade boys.

In Upward Sports, Every Child Is a Winner. Their goal is to use the medium of sports to assist parents in the training and nurturing of our children. Rather than focusing on wins and losses, they focus on best effort, best sportsmanship, best skills (offense and defense) and of course, most Christ-like. By de-emphasizing winning and losing, and focusing on positive character traits and growing closer to God, they help our children grow physically, emotionally and spiritually.

This positive and purposeful approach actually improves the sports experience; enhancing the competition and generating even more excitement.
