Smyrna’s Birthday Celebration is bigger and better than ever this year.

Join Atkins Park Tavern and the other Smyrna Market Village merchants in celebrating Smyrna’s Birthday both before and after the fireworks.

We’ll see you from 2:00 – 10:45 with BBQ from Atkins Park, live music, a DJ after dark and carnival style rides…it’s a free event in conjunction with the Big Birthday on the Village Green! Blair Crimmins and the Hookers will be performing and after dark DJ Joel Rabe from Lethal Rhythms will take over.

And don’t forget about the free wine tasting at The Wine Cellars from 2-4pm today. Rene always has some great new finds to taste.

From 6-10 pm, there will be tons of fun on the Village Green as Magno and Banks and Shane perform, McEntyre’s Bakery is mixing it up a bit this year by passing out cupcakes and of course, the fireworks.

vinings ice cream social Vinings Ice Cream Social perfect for a hot day!

Get the scoop as the Vinings Historic Preservation Society (VHPS) hosts their annual Vinings Ice Cream Social in a salute to National Ice Cream Day at the Pace House and Old Pavilion on Sunday, July 18th, 1:00pm-3:00pm. What started out seven years ago as a fun idea, is now one of their most popular Vinings events.

Coldstone Creamery, in Vinings, will continue their tradition of sponsoring the event with their donation of ice cream and toppings.  Additionally, Marshall McCabe, owner of Chick-fil-A at Akers Mill Square and Cumberland Mall, will contribute to the afternoon’s events with bean bag tosses and spin-the-wheel games.

Guests will walk away with coupons for the new fiery hot Spicy Chicken sandwich. The Chick-fil-A Fireman Cow will be making a special guest appearance and the firemen from Vinings Fire Station Number Five will be on hand with their fire engine!

The Vinings Rotary will be serving up freshly popped popcorn and Fidelity Bank will be passing out their famous home baked cookies. VHPS board member, Dean Morris, will be serving his famous hot fudge sauce, made from his closely guarded recipe. St. Angelo’s Pizza is sending their very own face painter to put smiles on the faces of the little ones! We will also be featuring a collection of antique automobiles on the front lawn.

Admission is free to VHPS members and children under 12. Admission for non-members over the age of 12 is $3. Parking is across the street in the Piedmont Medical and Fidelity parking lot.

Don’t miss this exciting event and bring your family and friends. If you are new to Vinings, this is a great way to make new friends in the community.

The event will be held at the Old Pavilion at 3057 Paces Mill Road, Atlanta, GA 30339.

2009 Smyrna Birthday Celebration & Fireworks

Smyrna Birthday Celebration

Since we’re in the spirit of fireworks tonight, seems like a good time to mark your calendar for Smyrna’s annual birthday celebration. As the locals know, we don’t do fireworks in Smyrna on Independence Day, rather we save them to make the birthday celebration extra special.

Join us as Smyrna celebrates 138 years with performances by local bands.

On the Village Green is where the fun and fireworks happen! Magno opens the show with headliner Banks & Shane bringing down the house!

Celebrate the birth of Smyrna with family and friends. High-energy music, festival foods, birthday festivities, a GIANT birthday cake by McEntyre’s Bakery and a kids entertainment area and fireworks at the end add to the excitement…be there!

Every year this big deal gets better and better.

200 Village Green Circle, Smyrna, 30080

Admission: free

2010 Vinings Tour of Homes

Mark your calendars and save the date for the 2010 Vinings Tour of Homes!

This year’s Tour is set for Sunday afternoon, September 26th, and five beautiful homes in Vinings will be showcased, along with the model homes of The Aberdeen on Paces Ferry. Saturday evening, September 25th, the Preview Party will be held at the Shroder home in Brandy Station.

South City KitchenVinings, will sponsor the party and provide a tasty array of their signature dishes. Jane Kennedy, owner of Curves in Vinings, will again Co-Chair the Vinings Tour of Homes with the help of Christian Brown. Christian has experience with home tours and he’s very excited about working with Jane and the Vinings volunteers this year.

Speaking of volunteers, the Vinings Historic Preservation Society needs volunteers to serve on the Tour of Homes committee and as docents in the homes. They also need House Chairs.

This year they have added a very nice perk for our House chairs. All five House chairs will receive a complimentary ticket to the Preview Party, a $75 value! Each house will also need two shifts of docents and all docents will receive a discounted Tour of Homes ticket so you may enjoy the home tour at a special price before or after your shift.

They also need auction items for the live and silent auction. If you have an item or a service you would like to donate, please give us a call. Small and large items are desired and they’d love to have a vacation home for the live auction. Your donations are tax deductible.

All proceeds will benefit Vinings Historic Preservation Society, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. This year we are having to replace the entire porch at the Pace House, our building listed on the National Register of Historic Places, so the proceeds will certainly be put to good use.

Please contact VHPS if you would like to volunteer for this fun event!
