Mortgage Rate Update – Week of June 29, 2009

The Week in Review:

The US Treasury sold a record amount of government debt last week to support stimulus plans. With such a large amount of debt being issued, last week could have been a tough one for the bond market and home loan rates. As it turns out, the demand for the debt issuance was high and as a result the bond market ended the week on a positive note and home loan rate decreased by approximately .25%.

What to Expect:

Volatility can often occur in a holiday-shortened week, particularly when there are a good number of reports on tap. This week we’ll get a read on the housing market, consumer confidence, manufacturing and most importantly the job market. Home loan rates have been on a decreasing trend since June 10th. Unless we get some really poor economic data, I don’t believe rates will improve any more this week.

Breg-ometer:

Next 7 days: Daily ups and downs ending with slightly higher rate
Next 30 days: We’ll see rates in this same general range
Next 90 days: Neutral

Honoring Those Who Served

the twentieth century veterans memorial 165x300 Honoring Those Who ServedThe Twentieth Century Veterans Memorial was erected in dedication to the memory of those who served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces – Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard – during the twentieth century.  The Memorial honors the living, the dead, the wounded, the missing, and the families who supported those who gave part or all of their lives to our country, in war and in peace.  The Memorial also honors members of the Merchant Marine who served during times of war.

The Memorial is located within Market Village near the new Smyrna City Hall and Smyrna Library.  The Twentieth Century Veterans Memorial was erected in 2000 to pay tribute to veterans from Cobb County who served honorably in the U.S. military during the last century.

Brick pavers will help pave the walkway from the Smyrna Welcome Center to the Memorial.

Veterans and their families and loved ones can take part in the ongoing development of the Memorial by making contributions.  For each $50 contribution, supporters may designate a marble paver for a veteran from anywhere in the U.S. who served in any branch of service.  These 4×8 inch marble pavers, honoring only veterans, will become a permanent part of the Memorial.  For a $35 contribution, 4×8 inch brick pavers may be designated for any veteran, family member, friend or relative.

Court of Honor

A majestic, 60-foot flagpole on a long granite base marking the entry to the Memorial, the Court of Honor is further defined by six smaller flagpoles representing the six branches of military service and a raised stone platform for veteran ceremonies and civic events.

Garden Wall

The Garden Wall begins with a map of the world and reflecting pool.  Inscribed in the stone wall will be 10 zones corresponding to the 10 decades of the twentieth century.  Wars and battles are noted in atimeline etched in marble, and the wal is lined with majestic trees and stone benches for quiet reflection.

Memorial Grove

A solemn, contemplative area, this open space creates the sense of being in a large outdoor room, with a small arbor and granite garden walls inscribed with the names of the Cobb County men and women who died in service.

A Legacy That Will Live On…

The Twentieth Century Veterans Memorial stands as a legacy to the memory of those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.  Educational and informational materials related to the Memorial can be found at the Smyrna Library, located adjacent to the site.

Please help The Twentieth Century Veterans Memorial pay tribute to the men and women who served this country over the last 100 years.

Imagine Academy Renovating New School

richs cobb center imagine academy smyrna Imagine Academy Renovating New School

The Imagine International Academy of Smyrna will soon be moving into a new home in the former Rich’s department store building in Cobb Center off of South Cobb Drive. Imagine Academy is a charter school serving the Smyrna Vinings area.

Imagine originally open in the Fall of 2008 in the Vinings Business Park, across the street from West Village off of Atlanta Road.

The 170,000 square-foot building has sat vacant for more than five years.

The school is using about 60,000 square feet on the first floor. The building is being retrofitted into classrooms, lunchroom, administrative offices, library and other school needs. The outside of the building is being completely redeveloped and will no longer look like the old department store.

Renovation is expected to be complete by July 26th and school will open on August 10th.

Sams said school officials anticipate moving into the new facility by August or September 2009, in time for the new school year.

Not only will this become the new home for Imagine, but the move should positively affect redevelopment along the South Cobb Drive corridor.
