The City of Smyrna is hosting a new event to help raise funds for organ transplant patients. On Saturday February 28th, 2009, Smyrna is launching the Inaugural Run Thru the Forest 5K.
This inaugural race will directly benefit Mr. Bruce Crandle who is currently awaiting a kidney transplant. All profits from this race will be held in a fundraising account with the Georgia Transplant Foundation.
Mr. Crandle needs to raise $10,000 and GTF will match that amount. The money raised will be managed/disbursed by GTF and will be used for anti-rejection medications, medical expenses and other necessities following transplant surgery.

This event is open to all runners and walkers! If you would like to join the fun and get the shirt but don’t feel like you can participate in the race you can register as a “phantom runner”.
RACE DAY INFORMATION! Race packet pick up will begin at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday 2/28/09. The registration table will be located under the pavilion in Brinkley Park. Parking is available in Brinkley Park off Legion Drive and in the lot between Legion Dr. & Hunter St. Please park only in lots!
Park address is: 160 Legion Drive, Smyrna 30080. This is close to S. Atlanta Road & Concord Road. The new American Legion Post 160 facility is part of Brinkley Park – and they will be offering a country breakfast for $6.00 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the race.
This is a “loop course” that will run through scenic Forest Hills neighborhood beginning and ending in Brinkley Park. Make sure you stick around after the race for prizes, awards, and fun! Here’s hoping for a beautiful sunny day!
