Smyrna Soccer Club

The Smyrna Soccer Club would like to announce that Open Registration for Smyrna Soccer Spring Season will be held on Saturday January 10th and 17th at the Smyrna Community Center from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. for children 3 years through 19 years old.

Children that were 4 years old or older as of August 1st 2008 may also register online. Check out smyrnasoccer.org for details.

The fee for returning players is $80 and $100 for new players (includes uniform). Returning players will be placed on their Fall season team. U-4 players must apply at a walk-in registration session.

Great news. It appears that Santa is on schedule and is heading across the Atlantic Ocean as we write this. So it may be time to get the cookies and milk ready and get the kids tucked into their beds for the night. Santa is on his way to the Smyrna Vinings area, so be ready.

If you’re one of those people who have actually lit a fire in their fireplace in this warm weather, make sure you put it out before Santa arrives. He never likes it when his britches get singed.

First of all, let me say that this has absolutely nothing to do with Smyrna Vinings, other than the fact that I felt compelled to check it out.

Rumors have been spreading like wildfire across the Internet about a Christmas Parade that is held annually in a neighborhood in Shelby, NC. You may be thinking, what can be so different about this parade that the high-speed Internet connections, that we’ve grown so accustomed to, are now being maxed out.

Well as the rumor goes, this is a Lawnmower Christmas Parade. In order to ascertain whether this was indeed an Urban Legend or a genuine holiday miracle, I decided to corral the whole family and road trip to Shelby, NC this past weekend. The parade is held in a local neighborhood situated on a golf course and lake. So scenic, no doubt.

And there was indeed a parade.

Needless to say, there were more than lawnmowers in the parade, with some people just walking, kids riding their bikes, some golf carts, a fire truck, a hay wagon and Santa even took part, styling in a convertible VW Bug.

But it was indeed a special moment. I will never forget my first visit to the Lawnmower Christmas Parade.

Harpo and Mimi’s EmPAWrium

To help local Smyrna Vinings residents indulge their furry friends, Harpo and Mimi’s EmPAWrium recently opened in the Laurel Commons retail center on Concord Road, adjacent to the Laurel Hill townhomes and across the street from Brinkley Park.

The goal at Harpo and Mimi’s EmPAWrium is to help both dogs and people to be healthy, pampered and HAPPY! Pet owners are becoming increasingly demanding consumers who won’t put up with substandard products, unstimulating environments, or shoddy service for their animals.

It wasn’t so very long ago that the phrase “a dog’s life” meant sleeping outside, enduring the elements, living with aches, and sitting by the dinner table, waiting for a few scraps to land on the floor.
