Garrision’s Broiler and Tap has long been a stalwart in historic Vinings and has been a favorite of mine for some time. The ambience of of the restaurant is warm with lots of dark woodwork, but my favorite is the patio which is perfect dining spot when looking for a good outdoor dining venue.

On our recent visit to Garrison’s, my kids ordered the calamari and a fruit cup, I had the Ahi Tuna Pagoda and my wife had house special of the night, grilled salmon with steamed brocolli. While I normally really enjoy Garrison’s, this trip was a real disappointment.

The calamari was to be lightly fried, tossed with chopped sweet and hot peppers, parsley and drizzled with saffron lemon aioli and spicy red pepper aioli and on previous visits has been exit. On this visit, the sauce was nothing short of boring. Normally it has a nice zip to it, but was very flat and bland.

I started out with the Lobster Bisque. The bisque was a typical bisque, nothing extraordinary, but not bad. The Ahi Tuna Pagoda is a salad with the tuna served rare, over crispy apricot wontons, chopped peanuts, sesame seeds, red peppers, tomatoes with a honey soy splash. At least that’s the description from the menu. The crispy wontons become soggy quite quickly with the overly sweet honey soy splash.

My wife enjoyed her grilled salmon special and steamed brocolli. The salmon was topped with flavorful sauce and was the hit of the night.

With all of this said, even though this night was a disappointment, I’ve really enjoyed Garrisons in the past.  I can heartily recommend the Steak Salad, the Low County Shrimp & Grits, the steaks and prime rib, and the Salmon BLT on the lunch menu.
